Ed McCarthy
Ed has been with Studio T+L since its founding in 2006. He is primarily responsible for our project’s stage lighting systems, lighting positions, and equipment. Ed also contributes his expertise in theatre planning, theatre operations, and television and video lighting.
Outside of Studio T+L, Ed’s ongoing work includes Associate Lighting Designer for 10 Broadway productions, including all companies of Mamma Mia! in the Americas. He adapted the lighting for Coram Boy, the British import from the National Theatre in London, for Broadway. Ed has been the Lighting Director for numerous telecasts of the Grammy Awards, Latin Grammys, Daytime Emmy Awards, Kennedy Center Honors and the past 21 Tony Awards, earning five Emmy nominations. He has been a Lighting Director for Live from Lincoln Center for twenty years. Ed also teaches television lighting in the Department of Design for Stage and Film at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Ed holds a BA in Business and an MFA in Lighting Design from New York University. He is a member of United Scenic Artists Local 829 and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 1.
